ICSA “Graduate Student Paper Award” Renamed as “Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award”
The Board of the International Chinese Sociological Association (ICSA) has unanimously approved to rename the “Graduate Student Paper Award” as the “Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award.” The rationale for this change is to recognize Dr. Nan Lin’s pioneer and significant contributions to our association and to the research area on Chinese societies, and inspire the research endeavors of future generations of young scholars working on Chinese societies.
Dr. Nan Lin is Oscar L. Tang Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Duke University. As a world-wide known and respected sociologist, he has published substantive seminal work and mentored multiple generations of scholars in and beyond the research field of Chinese societies for about five decades. He especially played a vital role in the rebirth of sociology in China in the late 1970s, and has been continuing to actively contribute to the development of sociology in the Greater China region. He is the founder and the inaugural President of the North American Chinese Sociologists Association (NACSA) from 1981 to 1990, which was renamed as the International Chinese Sociological Association (ICSA) in 2018.
ICSA will continue NACSA’s missions through organizing research symposiums and annual conferences to facilitate the interaction and collaboration between scholars in North America and scholars in the Greater China Region and elsewhere.The Annual Conference of the ICSA will be held on August 10th, 2018 at Princeton University, preceding the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association on August 11-14 in Philadelphia, PA. The conference will be hosted and co-sponsored by the Paul and Marcia Wythes Center on Contemporary China of the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies (PIIRS) (https://ccc.princeton.edu/). Graduate students are invited to compete for the ICSA 2018 Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award.
