The Center for Applied Economic, Social and Environmental Research (CAESER) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) was formally established in December 2009 as CASER, and the renamed CAESER reflects not only the Center's rigorous conceptual analyses of social and economic issues, but also its critical explorations of environmental relevance and its impacts on the public well-being in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
CAESER aims to incorporate environmental factors such as resource use, ecological impacts and climate change into a comprehensive assessment of human impacts. The pioneering work of the well-being center has been supported by prestigious sources such as the Hong Kong Social Dynamics Tracking Study (HK-PSSD), the first panel household survey in the region, which received serious support from the RGC-CPU Strategic Public Policy Research from 2009 to 2014. Through disciplinary research, CAESER's cross-border work provides inputs, guides policy decisions, and promotes economic growth, social progress, and the environment.
